by Kelli H. on November 20, 2012

Beer: Deschutes Brewery 2012 Jubelale
Date: 11-8-12
Location: Bend, OR
Type: Winter Ale
Availability: Fall Seasonal (Oct-Dec) – 25th Anniversary
Alcohol: 6.7%
IBU’s: 60

Aroma: Malt and chocolate

Appearance: Beige head, dark brown, and hazy

Body & Texture: Bitter chocolate up front with a quick explosion of flavor.

Aftertaste: Bitter but becomes less bitter as it warms

Overall Impression:
I’m much more happy with this years Jubelale than 2011’s. I remember last year not even being able to want to drink a glass of it. I wouldn’t say I was in love with Jubelale. It was more bitter than I was expecting. I was hoping for more of a brown ale taste, or had hoped it would taste more like its aroma. If you’re a huge hop head you’ll probably like Jubelale. Personally, a 12 oz bottle was enough to get me through the season. I wouldn’t buy a six-pack to stock my fridge, but if offered at someone else’s house, I would drink it again. One of the best aspects of Jubelale is that each year the art work changes. It’s like there’s always something to look forward to!
