On Sunday, June 14th, I threw my friend Michelle a bridal shower. I did have the help of two of her other bridesmaids as well as David, thank god! I really couldn’t have done it without the help of the others but ever since Michelle threw my a bridal shower 2 years ago, I’ve been wanting to throw her one when her time came.
When we found out our offer was accepted on our house I was so excited that I’d be able to throw her shower at our new house. It also worried me that our house would not be ready 4 months later to throw such a party. Since we were extremely determined and had the landscaping help from my dad we were able to pull it off. Our house was ready to host a party. I’m happy to report it’s a great party house! I can’t wait to throw more in the future.
I figured I should probably sit down and actually post some pictures of the bridal shower before I put it off too long. These were two of the games David helped me design. The design for all the games/signs were pretty simple and tied into the design of the actual shower invitation. Luckily I had David’s help with all the design aspects! I was really out of my element on that front. I think it really fit Michelle’s personality. Nothing too pink.
Most of the games I came up with were ideas from Pinterest, of course. I used frames that I had stored from our own wedding. It was nice to be able to use them again for another purpose. I think the frames (Dollar Store, baby) really help class up the party and give it a finished look.
I only managed to snap one photo of food, unfortunately. These were a salmon mousse appetizer that I made from Annie’s Eats. Recipe is right here. The rest of the food was; Cucumber Canapes with Whipped Feta, Individual hummus and veggie cups that Alicia made, Variety of Cheeses, Chicken Enchilada Pinwheels, Salami & Olive Pinwheels, Vegetarian Pinwheels, Fruit Salad, and different desserts Michelle’s mom provided.
Ever since the beginning of planning I knew I wanted to have a mimosa bar. I’m so happy with how it turned out! I definitely thought we’d drink more alcohol so I still have about 3 bottles of champagne left, but that’s okay with me! Of course, I totally got this idea from Pinterest but it was super easy and everyone loved it.
Champagne glasses were cheap to rent, I saved up old white wine bottles and filled them with orange, grapefruit, and blueberry lemon juice. We had sliced strawberries, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries to top the mimosas with. They were really, really tasty! We also provided a variety of beers as well as chardonnay and rose.
I bought all the flowers from Trader Joe’s the day before and as you can see, I’m not very good at arranging flowers, but I still loved them. I also used little succulents that my friend Maren had gifted me earlier in the week for my birthday. It was great to be able to use something I already had to decorate.
I’d ordered some decorations on Amazon earlier in the week. That was so much easier than stopping by a craft store. I made a Bride-To-Be banner, purchased the Chinese lanterns and the pink pom poms. Thank goodness the other bridesmaids hung those babies up in the nic of time! I’m happy that most of the decorations were repurposed from my own wedding or that I’ll be able to use them again for future parties.
I think overall the bridal shower was a huge hit. We had perfect weather! It was almost too hot! I even ended up getting pretty sun burnt on my shoulders. Michelle received everything on her registries which is great. I had to really push Michelle to register, but what is a bridal shower without gifts?! I thought it was very cool that she registered for items that would help her with the wedding rather than household items since her and Colin already have everything they need.
Michelle is a tea drinker, so as a simple party favor, I bought little canvas bags and put three different types of tea in each bag. It was easy, cute, and reflected Michelle’s personality.
Sadly, I’m apparently terrible at taking photos of actual PEOPLE and only have this one photo of us from the day. I’m so happy that Michelle’s mom stopped us to take a photo together.
I learned a lot from hosting this bridal shower. Parties are a lot of work! But, I definitely think they are worth it. It felt really good to be able to throw Michelle a bridal shower knowing that just two years ago she was doing the same for me. I’m so excited for her wedding!
