Life Lately

by Kelli H. on April 9, 2015

I know I’ve been terrible at keeping up on this little space of mine. I really have missed blogging but it just has to take the back burner right now while we get used to our new routine since moving.

I can happily say that we’re moved in and not totally living out of boxes anymore. Since I have a little bit of free time, I thought I would tell you what’s been going on lately.  I definitely want to do a post on our bathroom update we did ourselves, but that’s worth it’s own post.

SerialBefore our move I was obsessed with the Serial podcast. I know, I was a little late to the game, but it was SOOO good! David, my mom, and I listened to it at the same time. It was nice being able to discuss it together since we were all listening. I think we all finished it within 3-4 days. So crazy addicting. Definitely listen to it if you haven’t.

30RockWe started watching 30Rock. Again, I know, we’re late on this, too. It’s also so good! I didn’t know what I was missing. I kind of love that all the seasons are on Netflix so that David and I can watch 1 or 2 at night while we eat dinner.

Jogging has also taken a total backseat this year during the craziness of moving, but I’m happy to report I went on a 4 1/2 mile jog with David and Ryder yesterday and it felt great. Definitely excited to continue jogging more. I especially like our new trail right by our house.

Maybe I’m crazy but I’m enjoying my commute into work. Granted it’s only 30 minutes. I love listening to podcasts and having some alone time. Do you have any recommendations? I’ve been keeping up on This American Life. I’m also listening to The Nerdest and Stuff Mom Never Told You. I need more!

Having a larger kitchen has made cooking a little more difficult. Who knew?! I guess I was super used to cooking/prepping food in tight quarters. I feel like everything is spaced so far away now. It’s wonderful! But, it’s also quite different. Definitely going to take some time to get used to all the room. On the topic of our kitchen, Sears screwed up our oven and delivered it completely busted. They’ve been terrible to work with and haven’t done anything to remedy the situation, despite reaching out to them multiple times. It’ll be 11 days without an oven by the time they deliver a new one and then install it. Not happy about that at all…

On Easter my parents stopped on their way back from Truckee by our house and took us out to dinner to Rosso’s in Petaluma. I’d never been to that location and it did not disappoint. We had such a delicious dinner. I loved that all the beers on tap were beers brewed in Petaluma. Love the localness of it. We also tried two different rosés and I was surprised that I really enjoyed the Italian rosé over the Sonoma rosé.

Hanna Winery 2008 Alexander Valley Estate Grown Sauvignon Blanc.

I know I’ve talked about Hanna’s Sauvignon Blanc before but I have to mention it again. I can’t get enough of this delicious Sauv Blanc. It’s only $11/bottle at Costco. Make sure to stock up when you’re there! It’s perfect for the spring time weather.

I haven’t done much entertaining this year so I’m looking forward to having our friends Michelle & Colin over on Saturday and also having a couple other friends over on the 18th. Our house isn’t totally ready to entertain in but I can’t wait. I’m so excited to share it with our friends and create new memories here. Bring on the nice weather! I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to bbq.

Speaking of entertaining outdoors, we seriously need landscaping in our front and backyards. It’s literally nonexistent. We got the inside of the house mostly how we want it but the backyard is an empty mud pit. It’s been terrible letting Ryder out after the rain we had earlier this week. At least when it’s dry I don’t have to spend 10 minutes of my day cleaning his paws each time we let him out.

Anyway, life has mostly been house project after project. Trying to balance our lives better now that we’re moved in. Wish me luck in getting back to a normal routine!

good luck on finishing everything up with the house (looking forward to seeing pics!) I can’t ever get myself to buy rose- something about it feels so odd. Like I’m on the Real Housewives or something

haahaha. A real housewife? Did they drink that a lot on that show? I’m not a fan of sweet rose at all but the ones I tend to order/drink have very little sweetness to them. They’re more fruity, fresh, clean, and dry.

I’ve heard so many great things about Serial – I’ll have to add it to my Podcast list. I mostly listen to political/spiritual podcasts but I really like Stuff You Should Know, too! So funny. Also, I’ve never watched 30 Rock but I may have to add that to my list on Netflix. I was between that and Parks & Rec for my next comedy binge. Good luck with finishing up all of your house projects (though, even when you think you’re done, something else pops up!) The joys of home ownership = bittersweet!

Invisibilia is one of my favorite pod casts. I just started listening to Dear Sugar as well and it’s kind of a fun one (like an advice column!) Also, Undisclosed will be released starting on Monday and it’s a follow up to Serial! Hoping it’s good!

I’m happy to hear you’re all moved in! I hope you’ll give us a tour soon. Your big kitchen sounds wonderful!

I’m addicted to Podcasts too but I still haven’t listened to Serial. I will soon though! Right now I’m enjoying NPR’s Fresh Air, Chopped, Season with Sass, and Pure Green. They make the morning commute so much better.
