Beer: Sierra Nevada Beer Camp 2015 Hoppy Lager
Location: Chico, CA
Type: India Pale Lager
Availability: One time only — limited!
“Last summer we teamed up with San Diego’s Ballast Point for a hop-head twist on a crisp lager. We remixed this encore which is loaded with whole-cone hops in the brew kettle and in our Hop Torpedo to deliver a bold aroma backed by smooth malt flavor” – Sierra Nevada
Appearance: Golden, clear, small bubbles rising from only the middle, little head retention.
Aroma: Hoppy! Yeast, citrus
Body & Texture: hop bite up front, crisp, light bodied, very easy to drink
Aftertaste: The hops disapate to a more normal lager flavor of yeast and malt
“This hop-heavy beer combines intense citrus and floral hop flavors with the clean, classic malt body of a hearty blonde lager for a crisp but aggressive take on the India Style Pale Lager”. – Sierra Nevada
I am so impressed with this beer! When David’s friend Kyle gave David a 6 pack to bring home, he opened one up and I could immediately smell the hops radiating from it. Which is definitely not something you expect from a lager. I used to laugh at lager drinkers because I’m a loyal IPA drinker. If it’s not an IPA it’s a saison for me. So, when I smelled his hoppy lager I knew I had to take a sip. After one sip I was sold on this beer. Since then I’ve had a few of these myself.
Let’s just say I LOVE this beer. I never really thought I’d say that about a lager but this is my type of lager. The aroma is great, the color is spot on, and the taste, oh man, the taste is amazing. This beer is at pretty much every store right now. Do yourself a favor and pick it up. You definitely don’t want to miss this one. My only complaint about this beer is that Sierra Nevada is stating that it’s a one-time only beer which makes me incredibly sad. I love how easy this beer is to drink, and I could picture myself drinking it all year round. I’ll be sad when I stop seeing it being sold. I suppose I need to stock up. You should too! Believe me, even if you’re not a lager fan, you’ll still enjoy this beer. Cheers to an amazing lager!
