Brew Review: Sierra Nevada Boomerang IPA

by Kelli H. on January 6, 2015

Beer: Sierra Nevada Boomerang IPA
Date: 12-31-14
Location: Chico, CA
Type: IPA
Alcohol: 6.7%
IBU: 60

“Boomerang is an American IPA that slings fruit-forward and floral flavors of Australian hops for an assertive, intercontinental escape from winter’s grasp” – Sierra Nevada Brewing

Appearance: Yellow sunshine, golden, tons of carbonation bubbles rising to the top, good head retention, white foamy head

Aroma: Fruity, citrus, hops

Body & Texture: Upfront bite, lighter bodied for an IPA, lots of bitter hops upfront

Aftertaste: The hops dissipate into a nice malt character.

Overall Impression:
I like that this beer feels so light. It’s got a great carbonic bite upfront and the aroma is delicious. When you take a sip, each time you get a great smell. The hops are almost overwhelming upfront but it slowly fades to a nice malt characteristic which I really enjoy. Sometimes I feel IPA’s can tend to taste sweet in the aftertaste, and I didn’t taste that with this one, so that was a bonus. The color was lighter than what I was expecting, but it still looks beautiful. The color reminds me of a beer I’d like to drink on a very warm day or in the spring, it’s the color of sunshine. It had great lacing on the glass. It’s a very enjoyable IPA, but I think it’s much hoppier than Lagunitas IPA, so if you’re not a fan of Lagunitas IPA, you might want to avoid this one. If you’re a hop head, then I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t enjoy Boomerang. I would buy Boomerang for my own refrigerator. I’d love to try this one on tap! Thanks to our friend Kyle for giving us this bottle to try.

Thanks for the review! I am a huge fan of IPAs and love their Pale Ale. I’ll have to try this!
