Buffalo Turkey Burgers with Blue Cheese Sauce

by Kelli H. on April 11, 2014

Happy Friday!
There’s something about this weather (80 degrees) that makes me crave BBQ. I’m still a little upset we had such a lousy winter here in Sonoma County, but I can’t deny that BBQ’ing and running outside in the sunshine hasn’t been wonderful.
Last Saturday it was so nice David & I decided to just say “screw it” to all of our chores and responsibilities. We decided to meet friends at Lagunitas Brewery and enjoy some beers & lunch out on their patio. We then took the dogs to a HUGE dog park in Petaluma. When we got home from lunch and the dog park we decided to invite said friends over for a last minute backyard BBQ where we served marinated flank steak, grilled red peppers, a green garden salad, and jalapeno cheddar bread. Of course more beers were consumed along with some peanut butter white chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. I hope to share the cookies soon! The BBQ was a success and made me excited for more BBQ’s this summer.
One of my absolute favorite dinners during this kind of weather is turkey burgers. I’m always looking for new recipes to switch it up. David and I have been loving anything buffalo flavored right now. He’s claimed the Buffalo Wing Hummus as his all time favorite and we’re both crazy for the Buffalo Turkey Meatloaf. These turkey burgers are the perfect spring/summer meal for when you don’t want to turn on your oven.
They have a nice heat to them but really the heat is totally manageable. Especially with this blue cheese sauce. How come blue cheese and hot sauce are a match made in heaven?! Also, why did it take me so long to discover my love for buffalo-flavored foods? One thing I have yet to try on my own is the classic buffalo wings! Perhaps when football starts back up I’ll give it a go.
Enjoy your weekend! I hope you get to find some time to fire up your barbeque and give these a try!

Buffalo Turkey Burgers with Blue Cheese Sauce

Buffalo Turkey Burgers
1.25 pounds ground turkey
4 green onions, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
1 carrot, shredded
1/3 cup Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wing Hot Sauce
1/4 cup panko
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Blue Cheese Sauce
1 (6 oz) container plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
fresh black pepper, to taste

Buns, lettuce, tomato, onion, whatever toppings you enjoy

Directions:

1. Preheat grill to medium high heat.

2. In a large bowl combine all the turkey burger ingredients and form into 4 or 5 equal patties depending on what size you like your burgers. Coat in olive oil and place on the grill. Cook each side 7-8 minutes. Remove from grill.

3. While burgers are cooking in a small bowl combine all of the blue cheese sauce ingredients and let sit.

4. Assemble burgers on buns and top with blue cheese sauce.

My husband would be so jealous that you went to Lagunitis – it’s one of his favorite breweries! These burgers look awesome – it’s really hard to go wrong with buffalo and blue cheese. I’ve been majorly craving burgers, so I know what we’re grilling this weekend!

Having Lagunitas close by is very nice, but it is alwayssss so packed there! That’s my one complaint. haha.

Yes, yes, yes for all of this! I’ll need to pick up a six pack of Lagunitas IPA to pair with these burgers 🙂

My roommate who is foreign exchanging in SF is the BIGGEST Frank’s fan. He’s worried life won’t be the same after going back to Holland. Seriously, he puts it on everything…I should make this for him.
