The color of this beer is beautiful. When you pour it in the glass it has a wonderful white head that retains for a good amount of time before dissipating into a thin layer of head. The hops in this beer doesn’t really feel like 70 IBU’s. A good base for me is to think that Lagunitas IPA has a little upwards of 40 IBU’s, so compared to that it really doesn’t seem like that much more. What I really love about this beer is how truly smooth it is. It sits in your mouth without any sort of bite. The citrus flavor is very prominent too, which I’ve lately really grown to love in IPA’s. The more I drank this IPA the more I grew fond of it.
Now, that’s the good. The only bad I can find out about this beer is the damn price tag. Really $12.99 a six pack? That’s super steep. My all time favorite IPA is Stone and that runs about $10.99 a six pack which I’ve always thought was steep. So, realistically you won’t find Sculpin in my fridge on a regular basis. I mean, I wish it could be, but that just isn’t realistic for our budget. It’s definitely a delicious IPA, and I can’t complain about the beer at all. I just wish it were more affordable.
