Rocker Oysterfellers {Valley Ford}

by Kelli H. on November 11, 2013

Last weekend was my Nanny’s birthday, so we had a little girls outing to Rocker Oysterfeller’s in Valley Ford. The last time we all went was for my Nanny’s birthday two years ago. I’d been dying to go back since! I fell in love with their bloody mary’s and had been comparing every one since then to theirs.

After waiting two years to go back, you could say I was very excited!
You know when you wait a really long time to go back somewhere you swear you loved, and then you go back and it totally wasn’t as good as you remembered it? Yeah, this wasn’t one of those times.
There isn’t really anything about this little gem that I don’t like. I mean clearly…I even love their water glasses.
Flowers in beer bottles?
You know this is my kind of place.
 {Mom & Nanny}
Right away we ordered bloody mary’s. They did look a little different than two years ago. Last time they were served in small glasses and had a pickle. This time there was a green bean. I preferred the smaller size last time, because while I love a good bloody mary, I also don’t need much of it.
See that itty bitty folded up green bean? Yeah, that was damn delicious. I also really liked the extra long celery stick to continue stirring it all around. I still think this place really knows how to make a bloody mary, but I wasn’t too sure I’d order another one that afternoon. A bloody mary that size goes a long way. It’s kind of like an appetizer within a drink.

We drank our bloody mary’s and ordered appetizers. I didn’t photograph all of them, but I did manage to snap a few photos of them.
Now, it should be known that I’m not an oyster fan, but I did try one of the Rocker Oysterfeller’s (their signature) and it really was delicious. It had arugula, bacon, and some other stuff…man, I’m really bad at remembering ingredients. Anyway, it was good! I was told the butter garlic ones were good too.
We also ordered crab cakes, buffalo wings, and beer-battered onion rings which I took a photo of. I’m also not usually a big onion ring fan and never order them myself, but I really enjoyed these ones.

After feeling sufficiently appetized (and finishing our first drink), we ordered our meals. After all those appetizers though, 5 out of 6 of us only wanted a bowl of clam chowder. The birthday girl ordered a delicious looking burger which come with the best fries! Lucky for me she shared them. While waiting for that food to come out, I ordered another drink. I’d heard of their Pimm’s Cup and was excited to try it.
One sip of this baby, and I knew I had found a new love. Gin, ginger beer, muddled cucumber, fresh local apple slices, and a sprig of rosemary. Oh my god, I was in heaven! This drink is amazing. It definitely surpassed the bloody mary. My Aunt Shellie and I were thinking we need to recreate this at home. Everyone tasted my drink and agreed it was very tasty.
To no surprise, the clam chowder (with bacon!) did not dissapoint.
The sweet server brought out these apple fritters and sang happy birthday to my Nanny. It was such a perfect ending to a ridiculously satisfying experience.
{The whole group! Sorry for the huge difference in quality of these photos…yikes!}
We were all feeling so stuffed after that ginormous late lunch/early dinner. We walked across the street to the general store and some of them bought beef jerky and cookies. I don’t know how they could think about ever eating again! haha.
Valley Ford is such a tiny town and could easily be overlooked while driving out to Bodega Bay, but I really recommend making a stop.
I’m sad I waited two years to get back to Rocker Oysterfeller’s. I can promise you it won’t be two years until I go again. I definitely can’t wait two years for another Pimm’s Cup. I think next time I’ll have to actually order dinner, since the dinner menu also looked very delicious. This is such my type of restaurant. Great food, good service, local friendly feel, rustic, and easy going. I can’t really think of anything more I’d want in a restaurant.

Happy Birthday, Nanny!
I hope you had a great weekend celebrating!
Love you!

It looks like you gals all had a fabulous day! What a great way to celebrate your nanny’s birthday! Happy Belated Birthday to Nanny! Nanny looks like she’s full of life and laughter, and she actually reminds me a bit of my fathers wife. Also I have to say that you and your mom look like total twins!
I’ve never been to Valley Ford, but now I totally want to go there and have oysters, onion rings and crab cakes and I also want to visit that cute little store across the street. We love exploring the area with the kids, so this would be a fun outing!
I love seeing pics of your family, you all look like you have a lot of fun together! xoxo, Jackie

You should definitely take a little family trip out there. Day excursions are always fun and that area is totally worth a visit.
People are telling my mom and I that we look a lot alike lately. I see it sometimes.
