Random Thoughts Thursday

by Kelli H. on October 3, 2013

 1. listen to grouplove’s new album. it’s very very nice.

2. i love birthdays, even if they aren’t mine.

3. i got glasses! I can finally see far away again. yay for not being scared to drive at night anymore.  not just that, but i feel like i can see in hd. it’s pretty amazing!

 4. i’m loving rosso’s lately. david and i went for his belated birthday lunch. he had an anderson valley ipa on tap, i had a melon sptizer (non alcoholic). We shared their ceasar salad, a pizza special with fontina cheese, pesto, and bacon. we also were able to have ryder sit with us outside so it was quite an enjoyable lunch! a man came up to us when we were almost finished and loved ryder. he was petting him, and asking us what kind of lab he is, either american or english. we’ve been under the impression that ryder’s an english lab, but his face just really doesn’t look like one. the man said he doesn’t think ryder is an english lab. i’m just conflicted on the whole thing! his face is more american but his body is in between english and american. as if it really matters…

 5. if you’ve never been to the girl and the fig you need to. i love that restaurant. the servers are always knowledgeable, have great suggestions, and i love the decor. the ceilings remind me of paris. we totally feasted! we had a great white wine flight with adorable glassware.

6. the appetizer was delicious, but i also don’t even really know what it was. like chopped, shredded pork pate? i don’t speak or read french, so lots of the items are hard for me to know what they are.

7. david decided on a kivelstadt red blend and i had a delicious cocktail of tequila, orange liquor, ginger beer, and a thyme sprig? i don’t really remember what was exactly in it, but it was very fresh and gingery tasting.

8. david went crazy and ordered their burger but upgraded it which ended up being an $18 burger. it had a fried egg, bacon, and camboloza cheese on it.

9. i ordered the seared scallops with braised short ribs, which sounded really tasty. it was great but tinyyyyyyyyyyy. i think i ate the whole entree in 4 bites. a little sad about that…also it made me feel like a pig because david continued to eat his burger for about 15 minutes after i finished…

10. for dessert we shared the house sundae which i definitely recommend andddd their apple crisp. the sundae was way better. after all that food (did i mention we also shared their fig salad) we pretty much drove home and crashed. well, i did…talk about a food baby!

11. when i got home i tried to read more of the 2nd book of divergent but only made it about 3 pages. i can’t say enough how much i enjoyed the first book! divergent was soooo good, and i can’t wait to see the movie!

12. how is it already october?! i’m so looking forward to visiting my friend ali in half moon bay this weekend!

Ok, we have so much in common girl! I loved the Divergent series as well and I can’t wait for the movie either. Zoe and I are also anxiously awaiting the next Hunger Games movie which comes out in November.
I so want the recipe for that melon spritzer. I’m going to google it. We make the minty limeade so much that it would be fun to have a few more spritzers to choose from. I also think raspberry would be yummy as well.
I love Fig and the Girl as well. I went there with my girlfriends for a birthday dinner a few years back and I think the family and I need to head up there again soon. The kids would love it, and John and Zoe would love that burger that David got.
So lets get a lunch date on the calendar. I know you work, so I could head up there one day to meet you. Maybe one afternoon in October? I will email you! xoxo, Jackie

I have to try The Girl and the Fig now. Anything that it is reminiscent of Paris sells me.
Congrats on getting glasses! I haven’t reached that point yet but I can imagine it feels good to actually see now. šŸ™‚

We just went to the Girl and the Fig on our recent trip to Sonoma, and I loved it! I also had the scallops. We ate so much between our cheese plate, entrees and the fig salad, that we had no room for dessert! That rarely happens to me. šŸ™‚
