Oh, Maximus…there once was a time when David loved Maximus to the max. He’d constantly buy six packs and considered it his favorite. While he was all hopped up on Maximus, I was not feelin’ it. Then came time to do our engagement pictures. We knew we wanted to include our love for beer in our photos, but we didn’t know what to pick! We decided on picking a Lagunitas beer since it’s local and obviously one of our favorite breweries. I remember that morning I went to Whole Foods and was determined to pick a Lagunitas 22 oz but I didn’t know which one! I didn’t want Hop Stoopid
, so I went with one of David’s old classics, Maximus. During the engagement photos session, David open the bottle, and we shared the beer. I was surprised! I didn’t mind Maximus at all. In fact, I was appreciative of the higher alcohol percentage that helped me relax, somewhat…
After the engagement session, we didn’t buy Maximus again until very recently. My thoughts on Maximus are that it’s a very hoppy beer, so you better be into hops, but it’s also somewhat sweet, which I’m not really a fan of. There’s times when I appreciate a higher alcohol beer (i.e. engagement photos), but usually on a Friday night after work, I don’t want or need that high of alcohol. So, it looks like I’ve discovered why I’m not a huge fan of Maximus. I definitely think that it’s a good beer, and I can see why it’s a good ol’ standby for David, but sadly, Maximus is not a beer I’d buy for myself. It’s one we keep stocked (on occasion) for David. Last week was David’s birthday and he asked for a six pack of Maximus. Luckily, my parents made that one happen for him.
Have you ever tried Maximus? What are your thoughts on it?
