Brew Review: Uinta Brewing Hop Notch

by Kelli H. on July 9, 2013

Beer: Uinta Brewing Co. Hop Notch
Date: 7-7-13
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Price: $8.49/six pack
Type: IPA
Alcohol: 7.3%
IBU: 82

Appearance: Golden, clear, lots of bubbles, really amazing head retention, and great lacing

Aroma: Citrus, hops, light malt

Body & Texture: Smooth going down, light-medium bodied. Sits in the mouth very well. Coats the tongue with a hoppy resin

Aftertaste: Exactly how it smells. Citrus, hops, and very light malt backbone

Overall Impression:
This was an easy drinking beer! I had to be a bit careful because I was sippin’ it down so fast and that 7.3% alcohol in the sun can getcha! I love that this beer tastes exactly how it smells. There isn’t really any surprise with this beer. What you smell is what you get. It’s a great IPA and very well balanced. I do think that it’s a very hoppy IPA though, meaning if you’re just getting into IPA’s then this one may not be for you. If you take for example Lagunitas IPA has 42 IBU and Hop Notch is 82. You’re definitely going to notice that hop punch in the face, but if you’re a hop lover then you’re going to love that. I’m definitely going to be buying Hop Notch again in the future. It’s probably one of my favorite finds of this summer.
