Last Saturday David & I did a little wine tasting with our friend Jeff in Healdsburg. Originally it was supposed to include Jeff's girlfriend, Debbie, but she ended up having to work. Since Debbie recently got a job at Thumbprint Cellars in Healdsburg, we decided to start our late afternoon tasting there. Jeff & Debbie are wine club members at multiple wineries, including Thumbprint. Healdsburg was having a mushroom festival so a few of the wineries were doing some sort of mushroom food & wine pairing. Thumbprint had this delicious flat bread topped with mushrooms, thyme, and cheese. Oh man, paired with their Pinot Nior, it was delicious! I absolutely love when food enhances wine.
Initally I was a little sad that Debbie wouldn't be joining us on the other side of the tasting bar, but it was really fun having her be able to answer our questions, and pour us our wine. It was mine and David's first time at Thumbprint, although, it wasn't our first time enjoying their wines. Jeff & Debbie usually share a bottle (or two) with us when we get together. I'm a big fan of their gewurztraminer. I was also a big fan of their Rose, which wasn't on the tasting menu, but Debbie poured us some anyway. I think next time I go back, I'll be buying a bottle.
We started the day a little late and since most tastings rooms close between 5 and 6 we ended our day at Murphy-Goode. I had previously visited last summer with my friend, Ali but it didn't really leave me wanting to go back.
Since Jeff's also a wine club member at Murphy-Goode and David had never been, we decided to give it a go. We walked in and the tasting room was packed. I couldn't believe how many people were there! Since there wasn't any room at the bar for us, we were seated at a table, which I've never had happen at a tasting room before. I'm so glad we were seated! I love tasting wine this way. I kind of wish every tasting room offered more tables.
Since we were rollin' with Mr. Jeff, we were treated a little like V.I.P. which was pretty awesome. Jane poured our wines for us, and she was excellent. Jane was very friendly and knowledgeable. I love when people seem to truly enjoy their job, and Jane definitely does! She even brought out a huge bottle for us to take some pictures with, while we tasted the wine from a smaller bottle. She also let us taste whatever we wanted. We probably tasted about 8 different wines and stayed for over an hour.
We ended our tasting at Murphy-Goode with freshly popped kettle corn and a small tasting of their dessert wine. It was pretty perfect. When you're in Healdsburg definitely visit Murphy-Goode. I previously didn't think much of Murphy-Goode before last Saturday, but Jane definitely changed my mind. Try to sit down at a table if you can!
Although, our tasting day only ended up consisting of two tasting rooms, we had a great time. I'm excited to go back to Healdsburg in the future and hit up a few more. Next on my list will probably be Valley of the Moon to pick out some wedding wines. I'm really falling in love with wine tasting lately. I'm so happy to live in such close proximity to so many wineries.
