Well hello there!
& Welcome to another installment of Wine of the Week.
Thanks for joining me today.
It's been a few weeks or maybe a month (?) since my last WOTW post. I guess I've been slacking on my wine drinking, although it hasn't really felt like it. I guess I just haven't taken the time to photograph my wine and then take some notes. You know, I get lazy some days. Luckily, last Saturday night, David & I were determined to open up this bottle we'd had since December. I guess that's not very long, but when it's staring at you every day from your wine rack, then it seems like a long time.
One of David's Christmas gifts (from my brother) was this Vinturi to help aerate the wine before drinking it. I really don't know much about it, but I know it's supposed to make your wine taste better? strain it? both? Crap, I forgot, but anyway, it's supposed to be good. Again with the laziness..geez!
It does make a cool sound when you run the wine through it. I really like that part.
I've said it before and I'll say it again and again before I start telling you what I think about this wine. I'm really a total wine newbie, but I really do find it fascinating. Last week I started reading He said Beer, She said Wine by Sam Calagione & Marnie Old, both who are experts in their own fields. It's been great at explaining styles, how to taste, and what to pair the beverages with. A lot of the beer information I'm already aware of, but I'm realizing how much more I want to learn about wine. With that said, I'll tell you what I think about this cab!
Thoughts on Beringer's Founder's Estate 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon:
Upon opening the bottle there was an intense aroma of fruitiness. Once we stuck our noses in the glass we also smelled some pepper. We could both taste sweetness (blackberry or a very sweet dried cherry) on the tip of our tongues and the acidity fell to the side of the mouth, and then lingered a little bit in the back of the throat. It felt a tad tart after swallowing. This cab didn't feel too heavy, I'd say it was more medium bodied. Overall we were both fans of this bottle, especially since we got it on sale for under $10. David picked this bottle up, because in the past we've both been happy with Beringer's wines. Would I buy this bottle again? Yes! I would. Definitely give it a try. The price is right!
