Niners, Pizza, & Wine

by Kelli H. on January 21, 2013

So, if you haven’t heard…the Niners are off to the Super Bowl and we’re pretty excited! This is the first year David (& I guess I) have been into football, and what a year to get into it! David’s been able to talk to a lot of new friends, and it’s fun supporting a team that brings you closer to friends and family.

Last weekend my dad invited us over to my parents house to enjoy some beers, pizza, and football for today’s game. Only problem is David’s on a pretty strict diet, so this was his healthy plate of appetizers. I think it looks pretty good! One hummus was Whole Foods Roasted Garlic Hummus and the one on the left was my leftover Roasted Lemon Hummus.

The other plate of appetizers was a tad less healthy with some artichoke dip, marinated olives & mushrooms, guac, chips, and an unphotographed salsa. My favorite was the guac!

During the 1st quarter while the Niners were down, I was busy in the kitchen getting my mise en place ready for the pizza after the game. Tons of mushrooms, basil, garlic, tomatoes diced & sliced, red onions, green & orange bell peppers, ham, artichoke hearts, and unpictured roasted garlic, and a ridiculous amount of cheese.

After the victory we got busy assembling pizzas. Pretty much put on whatever floated our boats. This was quite tasty and had a greek taste. I was a fan! We usually make pretty small pizzas and each share one slice while the next one is cooking.

The night before my dad had opened up a bottle of Stags Leap 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon that was gifted to him, so he decided to share the rest with us. It was definitely a celebratory glass of wine! This was freaking delicious. So smooth, no aftertaste, and was so pleasant in the mouth. Definitely a great glass of wine. There was also beer all around, but that’s not being talked about until Tuesday’s brew review.

Doesn’t get much better than appetizers, your team winning, a beautiful sunny day, homemade wood fired pizza, beer, wine, and puppy dogs!

I’d definitely say today was a good day.
Man, Maverick is growing up so fast! He’s already as tall as Ryder.
Hope your day was as fun as mine!

It’s funny that this is also your first year of getting into football .. I’ve always only semi-followed and watched only Superbowl/playoff games but this year my boyfriend and I decided to get into football and each chose teams to follow before the season started, so we could watch their games every week and have someone to root for, and I chose the 49ers.. Looks like we chose a great year to be niners fans! 🙂 Looks like you guys had great food to celebrate with!

I started getting into football maybe two years ago. Going to last years game against New Orleans pretty much sealed the deal for me 😉 Though half the time I had my head under the covers because I couldn’t bare to watch. The guys were pacing the living room the last 5 minutes of the game. lol.

Envious of the Stags Leap! Such a great wine. I have to make it to the winery this year for some tasting. They’re just so expensive :

Cute pups!!
