Wine of the Week: Folie à Deux Ménage à Trois

by Kelli H. on December 28, 2012

Last Saturday David and I were at Safeway, browsing the wine aisle with the intention of buying a couple bottles. Of course I wanted a white to try and he wanted a red. I chose Folie à Deux Ménage à Trois, because the bottle was cute, it had a snazzy name, and the main reason was that it sounded awesome! The bottle is a blend of three varies of grapes; Chardonnay, Muscat, and Chenin Blanc. I’ve had all varies before and enjoy all of them, though they are all quite different. I was sold once I read that they were blended. I usually think of red’s being blended but not whites.

When we got home we waited a couple of hours before trying it. To be honest, we didn’t even chill it first. We thought our house was cold enough to just try it. After my first sip I knew I made the right choice in picking this bottle up. It retails for $12, but Safeway carries it for $11.49 and it was on sale for $6.99 (what a steal!). I’m tempted to go back and stock up! This is the type of bottle that I want to share with friends. It was fruity and smooth, and on a cold, rainy, winter day it was the perfect pick-me-up. It made me feel as though I was transported back to the summer. It brightened up my rainy afternoon. I think that the three varieties are perfectly blended. If you think the muscat might make it too sweet, think again, and give this a try.

After the first glass, I contemplated not having another, but by then the bottle was chilled, and David talked me into trying it chilled. Again, I was still very happy with it. I definitely recommend this bottle, and would go even as far as saying it’s currently a favorite. I’ll definitely be buying this one again and again.

At that price, you shouldn’t just buy it again, you should by half a case! 🙂 Happy Friday

They also have a red menage a trois. I’d like to try that one, too.

The red Menage a Trois is a favorite of mine and my boyfriend’s! It’s perfect because he likes heavy Cabs and I like fruity Zins…it’s a nice happy medium for us. Even his dad who lives in Napa and collects expensive wines uses Menage a Trois as his standby everyday wine!

I have never tried the white blend though, strangely, so maybe that should be next on my list!
