Brew Review: Calicraft Brewing Oak Town

by Kelli H. on November 13, 2012

Beer: Calicraft Brewing Co. Oak Town
Date: 11-4-12
Location: San Jose, California
Type: Brown Ale
Availability: Not much on this brewery yet, but I think this is one of their main brews
Alcohol: 6.7%
Aroma: Deep malt, oak, and chocolate
Appearance: Dark brown, in the light reminds me of coca-cola color
Body & Texture: Great carbonation, almost a “carbonic bite”. Goes down smooth!
Aftertaste: Bitter, but not overly bitter. Dissolves into malts and oaks.
Overall Impression:
This was yet again, a beer my dad dropped off for me to try. I’m not even sure where he picked this one up, but I’m going to have to find out. I really enjoyed this beer! I was so surprised at how much I liked it. The bottle itself was very cool, and the label was pretty thick, with a great description of what to expect. This is definitely a beer to “enjoy in the evening or during a cool day”. Then again, I’m really falling in love with brown ales this fall. This brown ale made me fall even more in love with them. My favorite brown ale this season has been Sierra Nevada’s Tumbler, but this one may have stolen my heart. It’s pretty bitter for a brown ale, but the hop loving girl I am enjoyed that very much! I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open for more Calicraft beer in the future. If you spot a bottle, give it a try!

oh, that does look like a lovely bottle. sometimes I buy bottles based on labels alone (same with wine). lol. and it’s from my ‘hood? must find this one. i like the description of the taste and finish. sounds like my kind of beer 🙂

I’m with Sonia – bottles/labels sometimes entice me to buy, and when it’s great beer/wine, all the better!

This is right up my husband’s alley! I’ll have to tell him about it and encourage him to try it.
