Wine of the Week: Wine Guerrilla Zinfandel
I haven't participated in Wine of the Week in quite awhile. I've actually been drinking some new wines, but whenever I've had them, I haven't photographed them. How could I share a new wine without some pictures? Obviously, I can't...
Last Saturday my dad dropped me off this Wine Guerrilla 2010 Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley. He had visited a local restaurant with a good wine list, and the wine guru of the restaurant told him this wine has been a huge seller, so Dad bought me one to try. He insisted I do a wine of the week post on it. I guess he's been missing my posts lately.
I have to admit that I don't have too much experience drinking Zinfandel. I did do a blind Zinfandel tasting back in June, which I really enjoyed, but other than that, not much experience here. This bottle made me question how much I like Zin's. The color of this wine was very dark. When I swirled it along the glass it would leave a dark purple/red hint on the sides until it ran all the way down the glass. This is one of those bottles, that after 2 glasses your teeth and lips turn purple.
The aroma was too acidic for my liking. Sitting in my mouth it tasted pretty good, but I was not a fan of the aftertaste. Just like the aroma, the taste was too acidic for me. I think my dad or a more seasoned wine drinker would appreciate it more, or I'd at least be interested in knowing what someone else thought. David drank two glasses, so I think he thought it was pretty good.
What stood out about this bottle was the bottle itself. It's one of those pretty bottles you see and you want to buy it, because it looks so cool. Plus, the name is pretty awesome too! I also appreciate the screw top -- gotta love those! While it wasn't one of my favorite Zin's, I will be using it in tonight's Drunken Risotto recipe.
