You know what’s great about going up to the parents cabin who love craft beer almost as much as I do? The cabin fridge is usually stocked with some quality beer. The first thing David did when we arrived at the cabin was open the fridge to see what was stocked. We found ourselves with a six pack of Mammoth Brewing Epic IPA. David opened one right up at 10 pm, but I wanted to wait until I could do a brew review before trying it.
Name: Mammoth Brewing Company Epic IPA
Location: Mammoth Lakes, California
Aroma: Malt & hops
Appearance: Clear, dark gold, decent head retention.
Body & Texture: Smooth, medium bodied, and not too carbonated.
Aftertaste: Malt with hops.
Yes, we brought a glass to the lake. Aint no reason to drink it out of the bottle if you don’t have to!
This beer tastes exactly how it smells. If you don’t like the aroma, you won’t like the beer. It definitely has more of a malt front than I expect in IPA’s. Luckily, I’m a fan of malt and not just hops, so this IPA worked well for my taste. There is a little less carbonation than I prefer, but it was still enough and provided some great beer burps. I would love to try this beer on tap someday. I can’t say if I’d stock this in my fridge, because I don’t know how much it was. Overall, I enjoyed this beer, and I’d be happy to drink another one. I’d say it’s a solid beer, but not your typical IPA, it is pretty epic in that it’s a memorable IPA.
Brew reviews at the lake, with a young lab off leash, isn’t the easiest thing to do. I eventually decided to take my pictures on the back of the Jeep we were mobbin. Pretty beefy, aye? At work people referred to this Jeep as the “Barbie Jeep”, but let me tell you, this thing doesn’t ride like a “Barbie Jeep”, it’s pretty darn squirrely! David & I couldn’t help but yellin “YEE-HAW” every time we got in it.
Here is our attempt at a family portrait. This is what I end up with when I put the camera on the Jeep hood and give us 10 seconds. Well, it isn’t too bad except Ryder is looking the wrong way…silly lab…
