Last week at CVS Beringer was on sale. I picked up two of their bottles for only $8! What a steal! I bought my favorite white merlot and also picked up this chenin blanc. I’d never tried a chenin blanc before, but since I was so happy with their white merlot, I thought I’d give it a shot.
This chenin blanc is bursting with a fruit aroma. Upon first sip, it’s slightly sweet with a taste of pear. It goes down completely smooth but leaves a bit of an alcohol taste in the mouth. I noticed when the wine warmed up a bit, the alcohol bite went away. It’s very light in color, with a barely pale yellow tint to offset the clearness.
I’d recommend this chenin blanc in the summer time. It’s not one I’d drink any other time. The flavor of the wine is pleasant, but I wasn’t really digging the alcohol lingering in my mouth. For $4 a bottle, I’m completely satisfied, but I’ll be interested in trying a different chenin blanc to see if I just wasn’t a huge fan of this one or of the grape in general.
I’m going to Beringer on Sunday for a wine tour and tasting with another couple and David. I couldn’t be more excited! I’m sure I’ll end up doing another Beringer Wine of the Week soon!
