Brew Review: The Big DIPA No. 3

by Kelli H. on July 31, 2012

Name: Blue Frog Grog Grill The Big DIPA No. 3
Date: 7-29-12
Location: Fairfield, CA
Type: Double IPA
Price: $5.99
Alcohol: 8.4%
IBU’s: 105

Aroma: Malts, hop, alcohol

Appearance: Medium-amber, clear, cream colored head

Body & Texture: Velvety, smooth, with an explosion of flavors in the mouth.

Aftertaste: Slight bite while sitting in the mouth. Malty sweetness with small bitterness.

Overall Impression:
This beer makes your eyes open wide! After a few sips the explosion of flavors dissipates and it quiets down. This doesn’t seem at all like a typical double IPA. It seems more like an American Strong Ale. I’ve never tried any of Blue Frog’s beers before. I’ve always driven past the place off Hwy 80, but I’ve never thought to stop in. Since trying their DIPA I think now I’ll consider stopping in. I’d like to try more of their brews. The bottle itself is heavy and very beautiful with the top of it dipped in a gold wax. Big DIPA isn’t going to slap you in the face wit hops, like you’d expect for 105 IBU’s. I’d recommend this beer to any experienced craft beer lover. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised like I was.

I have never heard of this brewery but I know the next trip up that way may involve a beer stop šŸ™‚ this sounds like a lovely beer. I wonder where one could find their bottles

My dad said he bought it at Whole Foods, but I didn’t see it there…
