Apple Turkey Stuffed Blue Cheese Burgers

by Kelli H. on July 24, 2012

I made these burgers last week, and they were delicious! I was so excited to share the recipe, but the pictures are just not that appetizing. I finally decided to get over it, because they’re too good not to share. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t eat ground beef, but I do love me some ground turkey. I’ll pretty much try any beef burger recipe and change it to ground turkey. I’ve never had it not work. Try it yourself sometime!

These burgers came from my love of blue cheese. It seems as though most people either love or hate blue cheese. You could definitely switch the blue cheese out for gorgonzola, but to me, they’re practically the same. One of my favorite salads includes blue cheese, craisins, apples, and nuts. I kind of took the premises for that salad and included it in this burger. It totally worked!

Apple Turkey Stuffed Blue Cheese Burgers

1.25 pounds ground turkey
1 granny smith apple, peeled & diced
2 scallions, finely chopped
2 teaspoons McCormickโ€™s Grill Steak Seasoning
1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
Burger buns
Lettuce
veggies
Optional:
BBQ Blue Cheese Sauce
Equal parts BBQ Sauce & Blue Cheese dressing mixed together
1. In a large bowl; combine turkey, apple, scallions, and steak seasoning. Roughly form into 5 equal patties.
Form together about 1 teaspoon sized blue cheese balls and then flatten. Place flattened blue cheese balls into the center of the burger patties, and form burger around the blue cheese. Rub both sides of patties with cooking oil.
2. Barbeque burgers for about 5 minutes on each side or until done. Serve on a toasted bun with the BBQ Blue cheese sauce and your favorite burger toppings.
