Brew Review: Victory Brewing Hop Wallop

by Kelli H. on June 19, 2012

Beer: Victory Brewing Hop Wallop
Date: 6-10-12
Location: Downingtown, PA
Type: Imperial IPA
Price: Gift from my Aunt Shellie!
Alcohol: 8.5%
IBU’s: Unknown

Aroma: Lacking a distinct aroma, just smells like a light beer.

Appearance: Pale-straw, lots of tiny bubbles rising to the thick white head.

Body & Texture: Great carbonation, medium-bodied, tart, almost an orange citrus taste upon first sip.

Aftertaste: Very bitter.

Overall Impression:
Head retention on this beer is phenomenal. I was disappointed there wasn’t more of a strong aroma coming from that beautiful head. The color was beautiful, and looked like an overall good IPA. This Double IPA is straight up bitter! Not many other characteristics going on in this beer. If you love bitter beers, then this is right up your alley. I don’t think they get much more bitter than this baby. I’m really glad I got to try this beer, because most of the beers I drink are from around the west coast. It’s nice to see what other parts of the country are doing beerwise. I thought this Double IPA holds its own compared to many other DIPA’s I’ve tried. I would definitely recommend any hop head to seek this one out and give it a try. I couldn’t find too many stats on it; like the IBU’s and what hops were used. My only complaints were the lacking aroma, and ascetically speaking, I didn’t care for the label. It’s a little too honky for me, but to be fair, it’s supposed to be like that, I think.

A drunk Santa with rabies! I don’t know why it looks like he’s foaming out of his mouth… Good beer though. 🙂
