Brew Review: Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

by Kelli H. on April 17, 2012

Beer: Sierra Nevada Hoptimum
Date: 4-7-12
Location: Chico, CA
Type: Whole-Cone Imperial IPA
Alochol: 10.4%
Availability: Seasonal
Price: $9.99/4-pack
IBU’s: 100

Aroma: Out in the middle of nowhere you can smell the hops from a distance. This is one seriously hopped up IPA.

Appearance: Golden and clear.

Body & Texture: Bitter, citrus, good carbonation, creamy thick head. Very smooth for a high alcohol beer. Easy to swallow, lots of small bubbles.

Aftertaste: Clean bitterness, skunky “weed” hops (not in a bad way!). Tiny bit of alcohol taste but barely noticeable.

Overall Impression:
I’m totally in love with this beer. This was the third time I had it and on this occasion the end of the beer resulted in a proposal…so, you could say this is now my favorite beer ever. On untappd that afternoon, I checked into this beer and stated it was the best beer of my life. I wasn’t joking. If you’re an IPA lover then you’ll definitely love this beer. Only sad part to me is it’s seasonal. I’ll just have to look forward to this time of year next year! Go out and treat yourself to this amazingly bitter beer, I think you’ll love it.
P.s. I gotta thank my brother, Jason for having this beer stocked at my parents cabin. Without him, we would have been drinking  a less superior beer.

I had to reread that several times before it dawned on me. First, I was thinking how the beer sounded so yummy and wondering where the heck you find all these beers.

Then I thought, wait, proposal. . . that means. . . (homer simpson thought delay) AH!! Again, a huge congrats to you two!! So exciting! Deets!! (only if you’d like to share of course). Wooo!

David loves hoppy beers and I asked if he’d tried this one and he said, YES, very good! You’ll have to recommend another good hoppy beer similar to this one so I can surprise him with my knowledge of good beer and get it for him 😉
