Baked Doughnuts

Last week I won a giveaway! Isn’t that exciting? I used to never win anything, and in the last year I’ve won 3 giveaways from blogs. This one was super awesome because Damn Delicious was giving away a doughnut pan. I’ve been contemplating buying one myself because they just seem so darn COOL! Luckily, I never bought one because I got it for free. What’s better than free? Fist thing Saturday morning, I got to baking some doughnuts. I had found a recipe on pintrest from Sprinkle Bakes and it was very easy to make.

The result was a slightly light cakey doughnut that was perfectly sweet. I really wished I had sprinkles but no such luck. I’ll have them next time for sure! This recipe made 1 dozen regular sized doughnuts which was perfect because I was able to give away a bunch to family but still have enough left for dessert on Saturday night as well. I’m really excitied to try out some more baked doughnut recipes. So, if you know of any, please tell me!

Baked Doughnuts
Adapted via Sprinkle Bakes from Sur La Table

2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 Tablespoons butter, melted

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees and spray doughnut pan with nonstick spray.
2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add buttermilk, vanilla, eggs, and melted butter until just combined. Fill each doughnut cavity with batter. Best way to do this is by using a piping bag.
3. Bake for about 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before removing.

Powdered Sugar Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon milk
4 drops food coloring

1. Combine all ingredients in a shallow dish. Dip doughnuts in glaze immediately.

Awwww, I’m so glad you’re putting the donut pan to good use! These donuts look amazing! And that pinkish-red frosting is gorgeous!

I tend to type donuts (laziness) and actually had a dream about donuts last night. I woke up CRAVING them. But this Kashi cereal will have to do…

I’d be afraid to win a donut pan…my pants size would shoot up at least 2 sizes! I love the pink glaze. 🙂
