Random Thoughts Thursday

by Kelli H. on March 1, 2012

1. Pliny the Younger extravaganza is pretty much over here. Before Russian River Brewery stopped tapping it, my parents wanted to give it a try. We all headed over there one day after work for our last Pliny the Youngers of the year, and their firsts. Dad thought it was overrated, mom thought it was great!
2. A couple weekends ago, David and I hung out with one of his friends Kyle and his fiance, Sam. We had a little doggy play date at the dog park, and then we headed over to Lagunitas. I can’t believe how packed it was on a Sunday! I was very happy they had some WTF (Wilco Tango Foxtrot) on tap. I’m going to have to do a brew review on it soon!
3. Went to Truckee over President’s Day weekend for the day with my mom and dad. Truckee is a small town near Lake Tahoe. I love it there. It was super busy and we couldn’t find any restaurants to get into for lunch without a wait. We ended up going to the American Bar which has a restaurant attached. It was SO good! I can’t wait to go back. While we were walking to the restaurant, we got stuck waiting for the train.
4. On the way home that night, we were looking for somewhere to eat dinner. It was late and we all decided some pizza and salad would be good. Using my dad’s iPad, I was able to find a restaurant we’re all familiar with. Mary’s Pizza Shack was started in Sonoma, and there are two location in my city. We made our way to Mary’s and once we were seated, realized this Mary’s had it’s on micro brewery! We were all schocked. None of the other locations have this. Look how big there tastings were — awesome!

5. Last Saturday David and I had our friend Jeff and his girlfriend, Debbie over for dinner. We had these drinks (I juiced 5 pounds of grapefruits beforehand!), chips & salsa/guac, and chicken soft tacos. It was a fun night and reminded me of how much I like to have get togethers. Everything was great, minus the mishap with the corn tortillas I bought. When I took them out of the oven they looked like a cat had shredded them…

6. Leftover homemade pico de gallo is yummy. Even in February with hot house tomatoes.

7. It’s a possibility that I shouldn’t have started my day with coffee pancakes and caramel sauce last Saturday. Although they were delicious, it might have induced a sugar coma after consumption.

Ha, I’m pretty sure my mom thinks that any and all beers are overrated! Give her Rum and Coke or give her DEATH! (or wine… that’s fine too.)

I can’t beliebe it’s March! All those beers look great 🙂 I haven’t been to a brewery in a while, that has to be remedied. And I love get togethers as well. It sucks down here because everyone is so spread out or over the hill and busy. Which Mama’s has the brewery?

It’s Mary’s in Roseville, on your way to Tahoe off Hwy 80.

Ah I’m so jealous of all your beer adventures! It’s crazy that you can just go somewhere to get Russian River and Lagunitas on draft or go to restaurants that offer samples like that .. We can only dream of such things where I live 🙁 My bf and I recently drove to the States just to stock up on beer haha.. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side!
Thanks for the pancake link 🙂

I was just looking up Lagunitas beers again and didn’t realize they’re the makers of the Little Sumpin Sumpin .. That’s one of the beers Ryan stocked up on recently, he loves it! You should try it if you haven’t before 🙂

Pliny the Younger was a fun experience this year. It’s a great beer, and I had a lot of fun going down to the brew pub. I also LOVE going to Lagunitas “beer sanctuary”. It’s definitely my favorite. mmm… the Imperial Red and Hop Stoopid I had were amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing! okay, we need to go back very soon!
