Scenes from Christmas in Kauai

by Kelli H. on January 2, 2012

 First off,
Happy 2012!
I don’t have many recipes for you this week. I’m sorry!
I’ve been away enjoying the island of Kauai.
I have to say, being on the island for Christmas was awesome.
It’s so nice to just get away and not have to deal with the rush of Christmas.
I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation.
Thanks Mom & Dad!

I didn’t get a picture of my beloved Lava Flows. If you’re ever in Hawaii, order one! They’re amazing. These drinks were pretty tasty too.

Take a guided tour to the Secret Falls by Kayaking there. So much fun! My favorite day of the trip.

The tour guide will take you on about a 1 mile hike through a beautiful rain forest before running into the Fall. Morning Glory takes over the forest and is absolutely stunning. We also got to see what Shy Grass is, and the tour guide was filled with island knowledge.

If you’re a fan of coffee, stop by Kauai Coffee Company for some free tastings and a self-guided tour. Definitely worth the 20 minute drive. Kauai Coffee Company supplies beans to Starbucks and Peet’s Coffee.

You’ll definitely need to take a drive out to Waimea Canyon. It’s the Grand Canyon of Hawaii, and it’s stunning! It was very windy at the look out points but the views are unreal.

Hawaii has the coolest Christmas trees. They don’t look like they do here and I love that! Poipu beach is beautiful! So lucky we got to stay right on it. At the farmers market we enjoyed Zesty Taro Hummus and ginger lemonade. Chickens are all over the island and run freely in the streets. Kauai is a pretty special place. Needless to say, the last week of 2011 was pretty incredible.
