Brew Review: Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale

by Kelli H. on January 3, 2012

Beer: Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale
Date: 12/13/11
Alcohol: Couldn’t locate it on the bottle but according to Beeradvocate 6.20%
IBU’s: 33
Location Brewed: Newport, OR
Package: 22 oz bottle
Price: $5.99

Aroma: Light malt

Appearance: Copper color, nice light foamy head

Body & Texture: High carbonation, easy to swallow, very little hops

Aftertaste: Hazelnut after flavor but very mild. Flavor doesn’t stick around much. Disappears right as you notice it’s hazelnut. Once I starting eating my food, I could taste the hazelnut much more. I think food brings out the flavor of the hazelnut more.

That would be my dad in the middle. Always ready for a brew tasting.

Overall Impression: Easy to drink especially for a brown ale, since I don’t normally like brown ales. Love the carbonation in this beer. Even though it has a hazelnut flavor, I think it’s done nicely, and not too overwhelming, like some flavored beers can be. I was surprised by how light this beer seemed. It almost feels like a lager. I think it’s a great brown ale and one I could drink again. Definitely a good beer to bring to a beer tasting party. I think many people would have fun trying out this beer since it’s quite different.

Pretty embarrassing picture but here’s David and me at the Rogue Brewery in Newport, Oregon back in March 2009. Very cool brewery and it’s on a pier! How awesome is that?

Hahahaha. Hilarious picture. Wow… that seems really old. I don’t understand what I’m wearing.
No comment on this brew, since I didn’t get to try it. It sounds pretty good though!
