Brew Review: Stone Smoked Porter

by Kelli H. on October 27, 2011

Beer: Stone Smoked Porter
Date: 10-21-11
Type: Porter
Alcohol: 5.9%
Package Type: 22 oz bottle
Location Brewed: San Diego,  CA
Price: $4.99

Aroma: Malty

Appearance: Deep, dark, brown

Body & Texture: Smooth, velvety, light feeling

First Taste: Slight bitterness, dark chocolate

Aftertaste: 60% cacao bittersweet chocolate, slight bitterness

Overall Impression: I was surprised by the drink-ability. I was expecting it to be hard to get down. I was completely wrong. It almost feels like you’re drinking a light beer.  It was very easy to drink! Although I wouldn’t drink this beer with a meal, I think it would be great for an after dinner drink. This is one of my uncles favorite beers so we had to taste it asap! I’m very happy with this porter and would definitely buy it again. Funny that the first taste and aftertaste were exactly the same tastes but in a different order. I think this was a good quality. Only negative I could come up with is that I didn’t notice any smoked flavor which is by all means, fine with me.

Have you ever tried this beer? If so, what were your thoughts?

Highly drinkable and highly enjoyable beer. Definitely my favorite Porter at the moment! This makes me want to brew a porter!
Looking forward to seeing more of the Brew Reviews on the blog! 🙂
(and looking forward to the part where I help you drink them. hehe.)

Yum! I haven’t had that one, but since I like Stone and I like porters, I should probably go find it.
